Why it’s a spot: El Patio has been an Austin tradition since 1954. Year after year it’s been serving up some of the best and most consistent Tex-Mex just north of the UT Campus. It’s stood the test of time, and yet, it is located on a strip of land that’s easy to drive past as you head toward the main “Drag” (further down Guadalupe). It’s some how both a hole in the wall, and yet a destination. If you’re staying in the UT Campus/North University/Hyde Park/North Loop area, check out El Patio. It’s tortilla chips alone will leave you satisfied.
